Wear and Rolling Contact Fatigue Analysis of AISI 52100 Bearing Steel in Presence of Additivated Lubricants

Tribological properties of lithium potassium titanate (PT), molybdenum disulphide, and tungsten disulphide-dispersed mineral oil (MO) were investigated. The sample containing 2 wt.% WS2 exhibited the lowest coefficient friction. However, wear scar diameters additivated samples very narrow. Extreme pressure enhanced with addition additives. rolling contact fatigue results better life balls in MoS2 PT-dispersed MO. Surface characterization indicated more pitting on MO WS2-dispersed as compared to PT, indicating a stable film case which was confirmed by presence additives ball surfaces Raman spectrograph. extended tests proved that PT-added provided highest cycles tested balls, followed WS2-added oil; thus, PT plausible alternative WS2.
